Delamar Week 11 & 12 - Hairdressing & Barbering

After airbrushing and bodypainting, we moved onto hairdressing and barbering. It was nice to be doing hair again and although quite a few were apprehensive about cutting hair, we actually found it quite enjoyable.

Obviously we weren't let loose on a real head of hair having had no training so we were given a female and male dolly head to practice on. On the female head we started off with longer styles and as the week went on, we progressed onto shorter styles. After each cut we had to blow dry the hair in a certain way depending on the style. We covered basic cutting, different types of layers and learned how to cut a fringe in.

After just about conquering female hairstyles, albeit with a few hacked hairstyles along the way, we moved onto the male heads. When we received the male heads they closely resembled Jesus with long hair and beards. We had the task of clippering short back and sides but leaving the hair longer on top. I really enjoyed clippering, once I got the hang of it. I have to say it was lucky we practiced on the facial hair first because I did managed to hack the moustache off accidentally. I then decided that I wanted to shave my male head completely to see what it would look like.

Finally we moved onto trimming the facial hair. We were allowed to be as creative as we wanted to be, without making the same mistake as before and just hacking it all off. It was really fun learning how to use the clippers and I'm hoping to get my own so I can do Ben's hair for him.

At the end of the 2 weeks, we were given the chance to cut each others hair. This was so daunting but we had all agreed to it and were watched very closely! Most people just went for a trim and I'm pleased to say my cut went well on Melissa and she did a very good job on my hair too!

So that sums up our fortnight of cutting hair. I really enjoyed cutting hair and have since cut my 2 year old nephews hair! I figure if I can cut his hair with him moving the whole time then I stand a fairly good chance at safely cutting other hair!

What do you think of my haircutting and barbering?
