Battle of the Make-Up Fixing Sprays

MUA Pro-Base Fixing Mist
KIKO Face Make Up Fixer

I've only recently delved into the world of makeup fixing sprays. Before this time last year I had never used one and probably didn't even know they really existed! Going all the way back to last August, I bought the MUA Pro-Base Fixing Mist - see MUA Haul and more recently you'll have seen I bought the KIKO Face Makeup Fixer - see KIKO Haul.

The MUA fixing spray costs £5 and comes in a 60ml bottle.
The KIKO fixing spray costs £7.90 and comes in a 75ml spray can.

Having used both these products on numerous occasions both in hot weather and standard cool/wet/rainy/windy (choose appropriate description) English weather I have to say the KIKO fixing spray is definitely my favourite. The main reason I prefer the KIKO spray is because it comes in a spray can so when you apply it to your face you get a fine dry mist out the can, whereas with the MUA spray it's a very wet application and you have to stand there waiting for it to dry.

I've also found that lasting power varies greatly between these two products. The MUA site claims theirs will last up to 8 hours, well I was lucky if I even got 2 hours lasting power. If anything the wet finish takes more makeup off than keeps on so I found myself needing to retouch my makeup more throughout the day than if I just hadn't bothered with one at all. KIKO make no comment on the length theirs is supposed to last however I can go several hours and still have pristine makeup.

Whether using a Makeup Fixing Spray is beneficial or not, I'm still undecided. The only area that I do find the spray to be beneficial is around my nose area as this tends to lose makeup the quickest. However I think on the rest of my face I could get away with not using any fixing spray and there wouldn't be much of a difference.

KIKO is definitely a clear winner for me and I would certainly repurchase it, however for the MUA one, it definitely won't be a long-lasting friendship!

What do you think of Makeup Fixing Sprays? Do you think they are worth it? Have you tried any other ones that you would recommend?

  1. I haven't tried either of these but I would recommend the NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray. It definitely helps your makeup to last longer.

    1. Ooh thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely be putting this on my list of bits and pieces to try! X
