Cake Club #6

I hope you're all having a lovely weekend and enjoying the slightly better weather! Once again the time has come, to share with you all the antics from cake club! If you don't know what cake club is, you can read my original post here. You can also catch up on Cake Club #2Cake Club #3Cake Club #4 and Cake Club #5

The theme this month was a 2 coloured cake. This could be just 2 colours or multicoloured. I was expecting there to be a lot of multicoloured cakes and for there to be more than one the same. However once again we all excelled ourselves in baking completely different cakes! I made rainbow cookies and as well as the finished product, I'm also going to add in a couple of pictures whilst I was making them so you get the idea of how they were formed.

I started out by separating my cookie mix into 6 and colouring. I then divided each colour into 20 balls. I used purple, green, yellow, pink, orange and blue. To make each cookie I added one of each colour ball together and rolled into a sausage shape, then twirl these round to create a cookie shape. I then decided to add sprinkles to the edge of my cookies. And then baked them for about 12 minutes. I was surprised how good they turned out and they're so bright inside!

My mum made a similar coloured cake. She made a sponge loaf that was marbled with the same 6 colours. On the outside it looked quite murky but how amazing is it inside! It almost makes your eyes go funny if you stare at it for too long!

This was an amazing Cheesecake made by my friends mum. Considering she left a couple of ingredients out by accident, it actually tasted really good. And the fluorescent colours inside are amazing, you would never know from looking at it on the outside!

And here are the other cakes…

Almond sponge cake which was purple ombre inside!
Sponge cake with multicoloured flowers.
Strawberry sponge cake.
Lemon drizzle cake which was green inside!
Chocolate orange muffins.

All of the cakes were so different but all very tasty! The next theme is a cake within a cake. I have no idea where to start with this theme so if any of you have any ideas then please leave me a comment and let me know!

What do you think of my rainbow cookies and all the other cakes?

Review: Monu Professional Skincare Recovery Balm

I recently tweeted Monu Skincare after stumbling across their site one day, to find out if they work with bloggers. They have a lovely range of products and none of their formulations contain any chemicals or nasties and they don't test on animals. Anyway a few emails later and they asked for my address to send me something to try. And voila …

The product I received was their Soothing Touch Recovery Balm*. I was expecting a small sample size tube, but no, this is a full size product, worth £22.50! I'm really impressed because it has meant I can use it for a good couple of weeks before reviewing it rather than only getting a few days worth out of a sample. I think the price is very reasonable as a little certainly goes quite a long way so this will last you a good few months. I love the packaging as it's so simple yet so satisfying as it gives a fresh and clean feeling before you've even used the product!

The Recovery Balm is suitable for all skin types which is always a bonus, and in particular, sensitive and stressed skin. I've always had sensitive skin and I'm definitely slightly stressed at the moment so this couldn't have arrived at a better time! The balm aims to provide relief, reduce redness, relieve irritations and thoroughly hydrate the skin (see above picture for more information). The balm also contains Soft Rose and Bergamot, which are essential oils for calming senses and may I say smell amazing!

The balm itself is a lovely consistency as it's not too thick and gloopy but equally not thin and watery. Monu recommend to apply this morning and evening after cleansing and toning. For the first few days I only used it in the morning, however I am now using it both morning and night. My skin is feeling so refreshed and hydrated and even my redness has reduce slightly - a massive plus! I can tell this is really helping my skin because any dry patches that I was getting before using this have completely disappeared and haven't returned. I've also found it reduces any blemishes and little spots much quicker than usual. My mum has stolen it a couple of times and she is loving it too!

I think that is everything covered that I wanted to tell you about but I would 100% recommend Monu Skincare and this product and can't wait to try some more of their products! You can buy the Recovery Balm here

Have you tried anything from Monu? If so, what products would you recommend?

BBB Beauty Box

I have a massive apology to make for being so poopy with blogging the last few days! I had some tests done last week to find out why I feel so ill all the time and then ended up back in A&E 2 days later because the pain was unbearable. I'm feeling much better now and especially as I now have a niece! My sister gave birth on Friday to her little girl, Phoebe Rose and she is just the cutest (I might be slightly biased!). It's so nice to buy pink things as I already have 3 nephews so only ever shop for boys!

I know people will say I shouldn't apologise because it's my blog and I can post whenever but I've really missed it! Anyway on with the post...

I've heard great things about the BBB Beauty Box. If you don't know what it is, it's a box put together by Jane from BritishBeautyBlogger of 15 products she is loving at the moment (this is Box Number 3). The box itself is worth over £100 but retails at only £19.95! What a bargain and a great way to try some new products out before you commit to buying them!

L-R: Benefit It's Potent Eye Cream, Roger & Gallet Gingembre Rouge, L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Lotion, Elemis Treat Your Feet Foot Cream, Janjira Hand Wash in Argan Oil, La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water Spray, Bee Good Honey & Wild Water Mint Cleansing Water & Kniepp Herbal Baths in Stress Free.

Benefit It's Potent Eye Cream - A perfect travel size eye cream, which contains a peptide complex that works it's way into your skin to restore elasticity and firmness and to tackle dark circles.

Roger & Gallet Gingembre Rouge - This is described as a little burst of summer in a bottle. It's a combination of candied ginger, mandarin and pomegranate.

L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Lotion - This smells amazing! It's a softening lotion that's designed to be used after your shower but before you moisturise with the intention of making skin softer and brighter.

Elemis Treat Your Feet Foot Cream - This is a perfect product with summer approaching! Nobody wants dry scaly feet when flip-flop/sandal weather is just round the corner! Apparently it has a cooling formula of eucalyptus and lemon. Sounds perfect for using on my feet after a days work in heels!

Janjira Hand Wash - I'm really hoping my hands don't react to this as it smells so good. I received the Argan Oil Handwash which smells fresh and aquatic.

La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water Spray - This is going to be ideal for the hot summer weather we've been told is coming our way. BBB recommends that you keep this in the fridge for a soothing spritz that will calm and soften skin. Also ideal for post-workout to take the heat out your complexion without drying it out!

Bee Good Honey & Wild Water Mint Cleansing Water - I love a good cleansing water but was starting to think I wouldn't be able to take one on holiday as the bottles are always so large and heavy! But this size is perfect! Wild Water Mint is said to be very soothing and it contains Vitamin A and E (A and E seems to be a theme in this post!) and the honey makes it very softening.

Kniepp Herbal Baths - I received the Stress Free version of the Herbal Baths, however there was also a Enjoy Life one. I think the Stress Free one is ideal for me because I get stressed quite easily! I'm really looking forward to using this after a long day at work for some vital me time and relaxation!

L-R: Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, Makeup Revolution Awesome Eyeshadow & Eyebrow Palette in Disappear Till Tomorrow, Lola Kabuki Brush, REN Satin Perfection BB Cream, Essie Polish in Hide & Go Chic, Bourjois Cream Blush in 01 - Nude Velvet & Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick Kisses in So Marilyn.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara - I've heard great things about this mascara from other bloggers so I can finally try it for myself! I'm not a fan of bristle mascara wands as I'm sure you know by now but I'm not going to let that put me off! This is a paraben free formula with collagen to give you the thickest and darkest lashes!

Makeup Revolution Awesome Eyeshadow & Eyebrow Palette - I received this in the shade Disappear Till Tomorrow, which contains a beautiful range of nudes and very wearable shades. I'm also really pleased this comes with 2 eyebrow shades as this is perfect for taking on holiday as it serves more than one purpose!

Lola Kabuki Brush - I'm so excited to try this. I'm a fan of LOLA makeup but haven't tried any of their brushes. This is going to be perfect for all powder aspects of my makeup routine and ideal for travelling too!

REN Satin Perfection BB Cream - I've never tried anything from REN but heard amazing things. This BB Cream is a top seller due to it's silicone free formula. I'm pleased it gives a satin finish as I'm not a fan of a matte finish. I also really like that it has an SPF in it as being as pasty as casper means I burn easily!

Essie Polish - This is the one product I've tried in the box! Admittedly I haven't tried this shade but I know the Essie polishes are really good so I know this won't be a let down!

Bourjois Cream Blush - I can't get enough of cream blushes at the moment. They are a big must have in my opinion and I love pairing them with a powered blush as I find the colour payoff and lasting power so much better! This shade is perfect too as it's not too bright.

Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick Kisses - Last and by no means least is this beautiful shade of lipstick from Charlotte Tilbury. Her makeup range and her makeup skills are amazing and what better way to dip my toe into the world of makeup perfection!

Well I think it's safe to say I'm very much looking forward to trying all these bits and pieces and I'm sure some of these will too become firm favourites of mine. I can't wait to get stuck in and try them all now!

Did you order a BBB Beauty Box? What do you think of it? Have you tried any of the products included?

Review: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush

This product received a lot of blogger attention when it first launched. I never managed to get my hands on one but I was recently in John Lewis and realised they had an Hourglass counter so snapped one up while they were in stock! I went for the shade Diffused Heat but it was such a difficult decision as all the shades are gorgeous!

I think the packaging is so simple and elegant. It comes in a goldy-brown box and the compact itself is a light gold/bronze mirror effect with simple black text. And once inside, it just gets better...

I'm a big fan of compacts with mirrors included because this makes life on the go much easier! I went for Diffused Heat which is a beautiful poppy coloured blush combined with their Diffused Light powder for an illuminated look.

Top-Bottom: Swatch & Blended Out

As you can see from the above swatch, it is quite a bold colour but when blended out you can see it gives a really pretty flush of colour. I've included a photo (taken on my phone!) of me wearing this blush as I think this gives a much better idea of the colour it creates.

This blush is well worth £28 and I'm very tempted to go back and buy another one! The girls on the counter were so helpful and I was even offered a job when I bought it! Never saw that happening!

Have you tried this blush? What do you think of it? What other Hourglass products do I need in my life?

Real Techniques Makeup Kits

You may or may not have seen that Real Techniques have now launched two limited edition makeup kits to go with their amazing range of brushes! As soon as I saw these I knew I had to have them. I'm a huge fan of their brushes so knew these kits would no doubt be just as good!

I ordered both the Modern Natural Makeup Kit (pictured top) and the Night Owl Makeup Kit (pictured bottom). These kits are both limited edition and will cost you $25.00 / £14.86 each. Each palette comes with 3 long lasting shimmer shades, 1 velvety smooth matte shade, 1 dark gel eyeliner, 1 blush, 1 highlighter and 2 lip glosses.

Modern Natural Makeup Kit

This beautiful kit has been designed as more of a daytime kit and provides shades perfect for a neutral look. I absolutely love these shades as they tend to be the colours I reach for on an everyday basis, but I also really like that you can build these shades up for a more intense look.

L-R: Quicksand, Gold Metal, Caramel Mocha, Nightshade, Dark Chocolate, Coral Sunset, Champagne, Copperhead & Nectar.

Night Owl Makeup Kit

As the name suggests, this kit has been designed to create more of a glam evening look. The shades are still quite neutral but I can tell now some stunning looks are going to be created from this palette.

L-R: Quicksand, Royal Orchid, Midnight Sapphire, Galaxy, Ink, Flushed, Champagne, Nude Rose & Cabernet.

As you can see the lightest eye shadow and the highlighter are the same in both palettes. I bought these a few weeks ago now when they first came out and have been playing around with the shades. I'm hoping to do a follow-up post about some of the looks I have created.

What do you think of these palettes? Have you bought them? If so, I would love to see some of the looks you've created!

SBP Hair

A while ago now, I posted my Ideal Home Show Haul, showing you all what bits and pieces I had picked up there. One of the things I bought was a hair piece from a company called SBP Hair. I had been on the lookout for some hair extensions for a while but couldn't quite get a perfect colour match. Until I sat down to try a hair piece out at the Ideal Home Show and minutes later I had bought it and was walking off swishing my new long locks!

I went for the heat resistant Style2go hair piece in the shade 06 Medium Brown. The Style2go piece is made out of modo-acrylic synthetic hair but designed to look and feel like real hair. I wouldn't have necessarily gone for synthetic extensions but you would not know the hair isn't real. You're probably thinking yeah yeah but so many people have commented on it looking and feeling so natural.

I'm not sure why my hair looks so red in the pictures above, they were taken in natural light but maybe it's the angle! As you can see the hair piece adds a considerable amount of length and volume to my hair. I have quite thin hair so it's nice to be able to swoosh my long locks about. I'm really impressed with how easy the hair piece is to put in and considering how much hair there is, it's not at all heavy and doesn't pull on my hair when in.

I've found a few pictures taken rather shoddily on my phone to show you how I've worn my extensions and what they look like from the front. WARNING: Selfie alert!

As you can see from the first picture in this post, the hair piece came curly. I've since straightened it and re-curled it and both are extremely easy to do. My only recommendation would be to curl them with straighteners as they don't curl very well with a curling wand.

What do you think of this hair piece? Do you prefer a hair piece or separate weft extensions?

May Birchbox

Welcome to May's Birchbox. This month's box is so pretty, I love the design! Birchbox have teamed up with Harper's Bazaar for May to bring us products to prepare for the warmer weather and all the outdoor adventures we might be going on!

Soigné Nail Lacquer

Being a fully fledged nail varnish addict means I'm in love with this product already! I received the shade Crème Au Beurre which is a beautiful nude with a slight shimmer. This is a full size product too so I'm really impressed, especially as they retail at £11 each! You've made your money back on this box just with this 1 product!

Beauty Protector Protect & Shampoo / Protect & Condition

I've been really impressed with the other Beauty Protector products I've received so looking forward to trying these. They're also perfect to take away on holiday! These handy little products claim to strengthen, nourish and protect your hair. Full size bottles of these will cost you £14 each.

Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Mascara

I was so excited to see this product in my Birchbox. I've heard so many good things about this mascara but I've never used it (shock horror, I know!). I love plastic mascara wands so I think we're going to get on just fine and I think I'm going to be very tempted to buy this! It costs £19.50 and is very similar to Dior's new IT-Lash Mascara

Aromatherapy Associates Revive Morning Bath & Shower Oil

Oh my, this stuff smells amazing! It contains pink grapefruit, rosemary and juniper berry. You can use it in the bath to soften skin or smother it over your body before showering. I have a horrible feeling I'm going to love this, but a full size version will set you back £39!

Liz Earle Beauty Co. Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

I've heard so many amazing things about this product so I can't wait to try it. I think the packaging in tissue is so cute and it felt slightly like Christmas opening this! Full size prices start at £13.25.

I am so impressed with this month's Birchbox. I feel like I say this every month but this is by far the best. Especially as I know I will definitely use all the products and there are 2 that I've been wanting to try for ages!

Do you subscribe to Birchbox? What did you get in your box? Or have you tried any of these products?

15 May 2014

I feel like I have been slightly absent from the blogging world this week! I unexpectedly had to work at the weekend and have been so tired since as my 4 days off went down to 1! I've missed all the blogger chats too as I've been far too tired! Anyway I've just about caught up on my sleep and so I'm back on track again now!

I heard about KIKO quite a while ago now but have never tried any of their products. I'm not really sure what made me go onto their site, but of course I couldn't leave empty handed! So here's what I ended up with...

I bought the Make Up Fixer Spray as I've never had much luck with any others so thought I would give this a try. I've used it a couple of times and I absolutely love it. I also bought some of their Brush Cleanser as I'm always on the lookout for new ones to try in my quest to find the best (oooh look at that rhyming!)! I usually use the No 7 brush cleanser but I've been disappointed with it recently so set out to find some new products.

I decided to invest in some new mascara to try. I'm not very good at trying new mascaras as I tend to stick with what I know works for me. However they were on offer so I thought why not! I decided to buy the 30 Days Extension Daily Treatment Mascara because who wouldn't want longer looking lashes! I haven't tried it yet but I will certainly give it a go and let you know what it's like!

I also bought some Waterproof Top Coat Mascara. I'm not a fan of waterproof mascaras as I find they're never quite as good as normal ones. When I saw this top coat I thought this could be the answer as I can wear my normal mascara and then just add some of this when I want it to be waterproof. Again I haven't tried this yet.

I didn't intend to buy a lipstick but they had a deal on that if you spend over a certain amount, you could get a free lipstick. I happened to spend over the threshold so picked this lovely long lasting lipstick in Cherry Red. I absolutely love the colour and will certainly get some use out of this over the next few months.

Finally, I picked up this beautiful eyeshadow palette. The second I saw it, I knew I had to buy it! It's the perfect neutral palette, with a slight hint of purple. This is the Colour Fever Eyeshadow Palette in Unexpected Rosy Taupe. Having tried this palette a few times, I'm really tempted to buy other colours in this range as the shadows are so beautiful.

I absolutely love the bits I've picked up so far and once I've tried them all a bit more I will review them in more detail. Let me know if there are any of these products you would definitely like to see reviews on.

Have you tried KIKO products? What do you think of the bits I picked up?
