Cake Club #3

It's that time again where I make you all drool over your screens as I bring you the latest Cake Club antics.
If you're not aware of my Cake Club antics then you can read my original post HERE.

The theme this time was Orange. I asked for your suggestions last time so thank you to anyone who gave me ideas! As we meet every other month, there is plenty of time to get recipes together but this time round it seemed to creep up on me from nowhere!

I settled for a gluten free chocolate orange muffins with orange flavoured (and coloured) buttercream icing.
I decided to make it gluten free because I'm on a diet at the moment where I've had to cut out a whole range of foods to figure out what I may be intolerant to!
Here's how my cakes turned out...

Before Icing

After Icing - No I didn't eat some, we just saved some for us!

And here are some of the other cakes that were made...

My mum's experimental cake - Gluten Free Orange & Almond Cake

Marmalade Cake

All the other cakes

This was the first theme where people have turned up with similar cakes. There were three that were all based on the same recipe with just a few minor differences! However they all tasted really good so no complaints there!

The next theme is Pastry so I need to get thinking and practicing. I think I've only ever made pastry from scratch once in Food Technology at school!

Have you got any ideas for what I can make?

#BritishBloggerSelection - Beauty

Week 4 of #BritishBloggerSelection is all about our favourite makeup brand. I don't have a general favourite, so I thought I would do what I did with the Fashion post and tell you which brands are my favourite for certain products.

Sleek
I absolutely love Sleek blushers and eyeshadow palettes. I think both are great value for money and I think the colour ranges are really good too! I own blushers in Rose Gold and Antique and eyeshadow palettes in Storm and Vintage Romance.

Max Factor
My all time favourite mascara has to be the Clump Defy mascara from Max Factor. I love the shape of the wand and usually buy it in Black/Brown as I find Black a bit too harsh for me.

Rimmel
I think if I had to narrow my choice down to one brand it would probably be Rimmel. I think their products are great value for money and they have such a wide range! My personal favourites are the Match Perfection Loose Powder, Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner and the Moisture Renew Lipsticks.

MAC
MAC would definitely be my first choice high end makeup brand. Two of my favourite MAC products are the Mineralise Moisture SPF15 Foundation and the Eye Brows Pencil. I also love the MAC eyeshadows and think they have such a great range of colours. I just wish they weren't so expensive as there are so many lovely shades!

These are my go to products that I use most regularly, however I do have quite a lot of other favourites from The Body Shop, Clinique and Bourjois to name a few!

What is your favourite makeup brand? Or brands?

NOTD - Barry M Gelly Paint in Watermelon

It's no secret that I'm a massive Barry M fan and if you saw my post on My Barry M Nail Paint Collection earlier in the week then you'll know just how obsessed I am! I do have difficulties choosing which colour to paint my nails each time!

This time round I fancied quite a dark colour. I'm not too sure why this nail paint is called 'Watermelon' as I wouldn't say it resembles watermelon green but hey ho I love it regardless of the name!

Wearing a Gelly paint was a nice change as I've been wearing the Matte collection quite a lot recently. I love how soft and smooth the finish is of the Gelly paints.

Do you own this shade? Which one is your favourite?

#BritishBloggerSelection - Fashion

Where has the last week gone? This week has gone so quickly and has been slightly topsy turvy as we had a big event on at work so my shift pattern has been all over the place! But I'm going to make a big effort to try and get back on track over the next week before I commence Blogmas!

So today's post is my second in the #BritishBloggerSelection series and is all about our favourite clothes shop. Although I found it so hard to choose as I don't have one particular favourite so I'm going to share with you my go to shops for certain items of clothing!

1. Knitwear - Topshop
I absolutely love the knitwear that Topshop do and most years I will stock up on a couple of new jumpers. Although they are not the cheapest, the quality is so good and I still wear jumpers that I bought a couple of years ago!

2. Jeans & Leggings - Topshop
I also love Topshop for their Jeans and Leggings. I always buy the Leigh jeans as these are super soft and a really good fit. I hate stiff jeans that go baggy around the knees and bum even when they are labelled super skinny! Topshop leggings are not the cheapest around but again they are good quality and don't go see through too quickly. I can't stand leggings that are so thin you can see through them in certain areas!

3. Vest tops - H&M
I have a teeny tiny obsession with H&M vest tops. I really like them because they do longer ones which are great for wearing with leggings as I hate the 'arse out' look. I own this vest top in just about every colour they have ever done and multiple of some colours! I have white, black, grey, burgundy, navy, purple, teal, pastel blue, hot pink, bright pink and brick/burnt orange.

4. Tops & Shirts - New Look
I never fail to find a new top when I'm in new look. I love their chiffon shirts and they're a great price! I also love their peplums and other style tops too!

5. Shoes & Boots - Office
I know shoes don't really come under clothes but as I've said fashion I'm going to include them anyway! I love office for shoes and this autumn/winter they've had some lovely boots in store! I bought 2 pairs and there are plenty more I could be tempted with!

6. Skirts - H&M
I don't wear skirts very often but most that I own are from H&M. I love their skater skirts and they have a great collection of tube skirts too!

I have a love hate relationship with Primark but when I'm loving it, it would definitely be up there with this little list. Unless I'm buying tights, which ALWAYS come from Primark!

So there you have it, my favourite clothes shops. What is your favourite shop? Or are you like me and like certain shops for certain items?

My Barry M Nail Paint Collection

It's no secret that I'm a massive fan of nail varnish.I can't go into Superdrug or Boots and come out without buying a new one! My all time favourites are the Barry M Nail Paints. I own 44 in total!!!! And so I thought I would share my collection with you!

Without Flash

 With Flash

Magnetic Effects

L-R: Violet, Sparkle Blue, Red Sparkle & Multi Sparkle

I absolutely loved these when they came out, however I think the hype died pretty quick! However I love using the diagonal striped pattern at Christmas with Red Sparkle to create a candy cane effect!

Other Effects

L-R: Kingsland Road, Ridley Road, Gold Foil Effects, Black Magic Crackle & Burgundy Croc Effect

I love the colours of the Textured Effects and although I wasn't too sure about the texture to start off with, they have grown on me. I also love the Foil Effects as they give a really bold colour and are great for jazzing up an outfit. Finally are the Crackle Effects and although these have the potential to look great, I've never really been impressed. And by the looks of things the Black Magic Crackle paint is well past its best!

Limited Edition - Christmas 2012

L-R: A & B (how boring!)

I love the nail paint on the right for Christmas. It's a mix of red, blue and green glitter discs and looks great with a red base.

Normal Paints

L-R: Red Wine, Yellow, Pink Flamingo, Strawberry Ice Cream, Shocking Pink, Raspberry, Bright Purple, Berry Ice Cream, Blue Moon, Indigo & Clear

I love the range of colours Barry M do in their basic range. Shocking Pink was my first ever Barry M purchase! And don't ask why I own a yellow nail paint, it's definitely not a favourite of mine and has only ever been worn for fancy dress!

Gelly Paints

L-R: Lychee, Papaya, Dragon Fruit, Blueberry, Passion Fruit, Prickly Pear, Pomegranate, Green Berry, Mango, Blue Grape, Blood Orange, Watermelon & Plum

I think it's safe to say the Gelly range have to be my all time favourites! I own 13 out of the 18 available shades and love them all!

Matte Paints

L-R: Vanilla, Mocha & Crush

These are one of the latest additions to the Barry M collection. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the Matte appearance as I love the Gelly range so much, however I was pleasantly surprised as they make a nice change. Since wearing them, I have had so many people at work asking me about them!

Glitter/Metalic Paints

L-R: Gold Mine Glitter, Diamond Glitter, Magenta Glitter, Denim, Emerald Green & Silvery Lilac

Finally, no Barry M collection would be complete without some glittery paints. The only thing I don't like about glittery paints is that they are a pain to get off! Both Emerald Green and Silvery Lilac are metallic shades.

So there you have it, my rather large collection! If you would like to see swatches of any of these shades, let me know in the comments below. I thought it would be too much of a mammoth task to swatch all of these shades in this post and most of you probably know what they look like!

What is your favourite Barry M shade? Do you have a big collection of one nail paint brand?

Please note that this is NOT a sponsored post and all nail paints have been bought with my own money with the exception of a couple that were give as birthday presents in previous years.

Quote of the Day #4

You may or may not know that I graduated from university earlier in the year. I did a Geography degree mainly because I enjoyed the subject, not because I necessarily wanted to go into it. Now I've finished, I'm left wondering what I really want to do with my life.

There are so many people asking me what I'm doing with my life now I've finished uni, you know the type that haven't seen you in a while and who all have their opinions on whether you're doing the right thing or not. Or question you as to why you haven't already got an amazing job and the rest of your life sorted!

I still don't really know what I want to do, I have about 10 different ideas but it's just deciding which route to take at the moment! I always wanted to take a year out after university to have a gap year and find my place in the world. However so far I've spent most of the time stressing about what I'm going to do with my life because I like to have a plan. But I've been trying to relax a bit more recently as all this stressing is not getting me anywhere!

I think this quote sums up how I feel about what to do with my life at the moment. And hopefully by taking some time to figure it out and relax something will come along when I least expect it! I also think this scenario applies to many people having just finished uni or even those having just finished school or college and are trying to decide which route to take next.

Does this relate to any of you?

Review: Latest Seventeen Purchases

Earlier in the month, I posted about a few new items I had purchased in my Haul - Boots, The Body Shop & Superdrug post. From Boots I had bought some makeup from Seventeen to try as they had an offer for 3 for £10. I promised I would let you know my thoughts on these items so here you are!

Phwoarr Paint - Heavy Duty Under Eye Concealer
First up was the concealer. I don't have particularly bad under eye circles at the moment but had heard brilliant things about this concealer so had to try it! It's lovely and creamy and does cover up any dark circles and blemishes really well. I bought the colour fair, which is perfect for me and tend to apply it with my hands rather than a brush. I love the simple design on the packaging and it's a really handy size to pop in your bag to carry around with you. My only reservation about this is that when I have applied it under my eyes a couple of times I've ended up with slight crease marks under my eyes after a couple of hours. However providing you are aware of this, it can be easily rubbed in!

Flawless Poreless Primer
This was the product that I really wanted to try out from Seventeen. Again like the concealer, I had heard great things about it! I have quite obvious pores on my chin and around my nose and was hoping this would be my saviour! The first couple of times I used it, I applied it to my whole face rather than selected areas and found my makeup didn't stay as well as when I use other primers. I think this may be because the primer is quite solid in the packaging so you have to rub quite hard to pick up any product and I tend to prefer a creamier primer. However fear not, I have come up with a solution! I have found the primer works best when applied to smaller more specific areas before applying a more general primer over the top. This way the Seventeen primer fills in the pores and the other primer serves as a better base for longer lasting makeup. Again I love the packaging and although it is a handy size to carry around, I probably wouldn't on a daily basis!

On The Spot Foundation
Finally say hello to Mr Foundation. As mentioned in my Haul post, this wasn't the foundation I originally had my eye on but when the others weren't in stock I decided to give this one a try! I also mentioned that I only suffer from spotty skin occasionally but thought this would be ideal for those times when I do have a breakout or blemishes. I chose the shade 'Fair' as I wanted something lighter than the other foundations I have but equally not too light! This is perfect for my skin at the moment. The tube is ideal for carrying around as the lid pulls off and has a pump action top underneath. I've also found it's great for topping up makeup here and there, even if you put a different one on in the morning, as it gives good coverage. I guess in that sense, I almost use it in place of a concealer!

And there you have it, some new favourites to my collection!

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think? Or have you decided to try any of these now?
