Review: Max Factor Smoky Eye Effect Eyeshadow

I was in my local Superdrug the other day, having a mooch around the make-up stands for a few products when I came across the Max Factor Smoky Eye Effect Eyeshadow. These are currently on offer for £4.99 in both Superdrug and Boots (usually £7.99), which I personally think is a bargain! I bought the colour Silver Storm.

As you can see they are a pen-style eyeshadow, which isn't something I would usually go for. However they are relatively quick and easy to apply. The only slight letdown is that they can be hard to blend as they are quite creamy. They tend to go clog up a blending brush and end up looking rather mucky, but wipe off if you blend with your finger. The easiest way to blend them together is with the two ends by working the colours into each other as you go.

As you can see they are very sparkly and once blended there isn't a great deal of difference, which suits for a more subtle smoky eye. Due to their creamy consistency, they do tend to crease fairly quickly, however this can be reduced by using a powder eyeshadow over the top to set the colour - something both I and other bloggers have found!

Once on, they do appear less sparkly and although I have gone for a more subtle smoky eye, you could build up the darker colour along the lash line, in the outer corner and through the crease for a stronger look.

This eyeshadow comes in 8 colour combinations and like many eyeshadow collections, around half of these are fairly bright. However I would definitely buy the other more natural colours as they are a good price, easy to apply and although they have some drawbacks, can be combined with other products to enhance the overall look.

Have you tried these eyeshadows? If so, what did you think? Which colour was your favourite?
